Dear Eddy House Community:

Eddy House is the central intake and assessment facility for all homeless youth in Northern Nevada.   The Eddy House is the first point of contact for Reno’s homeless youth population and serves as the central intake and assessment for young, homeless people ages 12-24. In 2017, the Eddy House saw over 625 individual youth (as of August 2017) come through our doors. Nearly 70% of Eddy House youth report that they are safer living on the streets than they were living at home.

It is our vision at Eddy House to end youth homelessness by focusing on teaching practical skills, as well as the social and emotional skills our kids need to escape a life on the streets.  As you may know, Northern Nevada is experiencing a housing shortage and currently there is nowhere to send our young people when we close our doors at 5:00 p.m.  Unfortunately, the numbers of homeless youth continue to rise and we’ve seen as many as 67 young people a day in our small space at Eddy House.

Youth homelessness is an adult problem to solve and I have tremendous faith in our community to get involved and paint a different picture.

We at the Eddy House seek to transform our community by providing homeless, runaway, foster, and other at-risk youth the opportunity to become self-sufficient and empowered in Northern Nevada.  We cannot do this alone and rely on our community partners to assist our vulnerable youth.  It is our hope that 2017 will bring us closer to a 24-hour drop-in facility that will keep our young people safe while they learn the social and emotional skills needed to lead happy and productive lives.

As always, if you are interested in scheduling a tour or would like to know more about the homeless youth in our Northern Nevada community and how you can help, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Warmest Regards,

Michele Gehr, MSSW
Executive Director
