Local Stations Shared Our Need for Support When Emergency Shelter Exceeded Capacity

On December 19th, KTVN 2 News came to Eddy House to help us spread the word about our need for community support.
For six nights in a row in December, our Emergency Shelter beds have exceeded capacity, and we have had to shelter youth on additional cots and couches. This is the first time we’ve seen every bed full, and we need your support to provide resources.
While we did not have to turn youth away when our beds exceed capacity, we are providing more meals, showers, and resources than ever before.
On December 20th, KOLO 8 came to Eddy House to speak with our CEO Trevor Macaluso about our Emergency Shelter beds exceeding capacity and how the community can provide support.
Trevor stated “We are not deferring anybody. We are accepting everybody.” But donations from the community will help us with the increased cost of laundry, meals, hygiene items, new socks and underwear, and more to make sure every young person who comes to us has the resources they need.
Youth account for 10% of the unhoused community, and this year we’ve seen a 40% growth in the number of youth we served over 2022. This is due to many factors, including cost of living. Watch to learn more.
Local news station KRNV News 4 also visited Eddy House to share the story of our Emergency Shelter beds being over capacity.
Our Chief Operating Officer Jillian Keller said “We haven’t had to turn away anybody, and we don’t anticipate having to do that. But we do have to get creative with they way that they’re staying at Eddy House.”
We have been putting out cots and couches to expand our capacity, and will not turn any young person away who comes to us seeking shelter. But, we’re providing more meals, new socks and underwear, showers, and support, so we need our community to help us meet the rising need.
