Viretta’s Story of Strength

When Viretta first arrived at Eddy House, she was exhausted from months of couch-surfing and camping, never knowing where she would sleep next. With nowhere else to turn, she came to Eddy House looking for hope.

Our staff welcomed Viretta with open arms, ensuring she had a warm meal, fresh clothing, and a safe place to rest. Over the course of a year, Viretta and Workforce Development Manager Tammy worked closely together, working to obtain her security guard card, a driving permit, and, hopefully soon, her driver’s license. Viretta participated in a Job Fair and she secured a job at a local casino resort—where she still works today. She also received a computer from Dress for Success to support her studies, and in just two more months, she will complete her high school equivalency exam!

Through our Aftercare Program, Aftercare Coordinator Kaley provided additional support, helping Viretta with transportation, food, and resources as she worked toward stability. Despite the challenges she faced, Viretta remained resilient, continuously striving to find the right job and build an independent life. Today, she has been sustainably independent for over two years, maintaining employment and working hard toward reuniting with her daughter.

Viretta is a true champion of the Eddy House, often sharing how our team helped her learn to connect with resources and stay on track. Her journey is a testament to the power of resilience—and to the support of people like you.
