Eddy House is thrilled to announce that our Eddy House Hangout program has successfully launched in multiple high schools across Northern Nevada! The program launched at North Valleys High School and has now expanded to Reed, Sparks, Spanish Springs, and Damonte Ranch High Schools, ensuring that more students have access to critical resources right on their campuses.
Eddy House Hangout Program Brings Mobile Outreach to High Schools—Where to Find Us Weekly
Why We Started Eddy House Hangout
At Eddy House, we know that youth homelessness doesn’t just start at age 18—many young people face housing instability, food insecurity, and other challenges while still in high school. In fact, 40% of the young people we’ve served have told us they were homeless before the age of 18. Unfortunately, without access to basic necessities and support systems, students in crisis often struggle to stay in school, creating barriers to their long-term success.

That’s why we launched Eddy House Hangout, a mobile drop-in center that brings essential resources directly to high school students in need. By meeting young people where they are, we are breaking down barriers and ensuring they have access to the help they need to thrive—academically and beyond.
What Does Eddy House Hangout Do?
With the community’s support, this program offers earlier intervention for students who need help before graduating high school. Thanks to a transformational donation along with a generous $100,000 grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, facilitated by Greater Nevada Credit Union, Eddy House Hangout can now provide students ages 14-18 with:
✅ School supplies
✅ Clothing
✅ Hygiene products
✅ Snacks and essential items
✅ A safe space to seek support
How It’s Already Making an Impact
Since launching, Eddy House Hangout has been incredibly well-received by students, teachers, and school staff. Here’s what we’ve seen so far:
💜 Students are engaging—they’ve joined in yard games, picked up swag giveaways, and connected with our team, creating a welcoming, supportive environment.
💜 Immediate relief for students in need—many have expressed gratitude for easy access to hygiene items, snacks, and school supplies, which helps them feel prepared and supported.
💜 Strong support from school staff—educators and administrators recognize the urgent need for these resources and have embraced the program as a vital support system for their students.
💜 Meaningful connections—some students have already reached out about visiting Eddy House for additional services, showing that the program is bridging the gap between in-school and long-term support.
