Aftercare: Support Beyond Shelter
When youth are ready to move out of Eddy House programs and into a place of their own, our Aftercare Program is there to help make that transition smooth and sustainable.
Our Aftercare Coordinator works one-on-one with each young adult to:
- Search for and apply to safe, affordable housing.
- Budget for rent and ongoing living expenses.
- Access rental assistance and security deposit support.
- Receive move-in essentials like furniture and household supplies.
- Maintain housing through long-term case management.
We stay connected even after youth move out, offering follow-up support like food pantry bags, hygiene items, bus passes, and connection to other resources as needed.
This continued support is especially critical in Northern Nevada. Rising rent prices and limited affordable housing have made it difficult for young adults, especially those in entry-level jobs, to live independently. A simple barrier like a security deposit can stand between a youth and safe housing, aftercare bridges that gap.
Supporting Young Parents
The Aftercare Program is also a lifeline for young parents who, due to facility limitations, cannot remain at Eddy House with their children. These resilient young people have already taken important steps such as finding a job, engaging in care, and working toward independence, but still face unique challenges, including:
- Low wages that don’t match the cost of living.
- Childcare and medical expenses.
- Limited access to safe, affordable family housing.
Through targeted support, Aftercare helps young parents and their children avoid homelessness, access secure housing, and continue building toward a stable, self-sufficient future.
Diversion: Preventing Homelessness Before It Starts
Our Diversion Program provides rapid, individualized support for youth who have just lost housing by helping them find safe alternatives before entering a shelter or experiencing unsheltered homelessness.
This early intervention is guided by client-centered problem-solving. Eddy House staff work closely with youth to:
- Understand the cause of the housing crisis.
- Explore short- and long-term alternatives.
- Reconnect with family or friends in safe, stable environments.
- Arrange temporary or shared housing solutions.
- Cover transportation costs to reunite with supportive family members.
Whether helping a young person return to a safe home in another city or negotiating a short-term stay with a friend, Diversion offers fast, practical pathways back to stability.
